Typical size
A large, powerful gamefish
Habitat
Shoaling predator over reef and open water

The yellowtail is a large, muscular member of the kingfish family, blue to olive above and shading to silvery white below, often with a narrow bronze stripe along the midside. It is a fast open-water predator that shoals and can appear over reef in numbers when the water and bait are right.

It is one of the great gamefish of the South African coast, and an unmistakable sight when a shoal sweeps through.
