A coastal logbook,
not a catalogue.
DiveFree is a coastal logbook run out of Port Elizabeth - Gqeberha - with spots and stories from around the South African coast.
The site holds six things at roughly equal weight: a dive map of the spots we dive, in Algoa Bay and further afield, the journal of field notes and write-ups from this coast, a species guide to the fish, sharks and marine life we meet down there, the South African size and bag limits, the standing club records kept by the Algoa Underwater Club, and live beach cameras from around the country.
This is a one-person operation. New entries go up as the dives happen, not on a schedule. Some spots aren't on the map because they're not ours to share - that's part of how diving works on this coast. DiveFree started as a YouTube channel called Hawk: the channel is the visual record, this site is the written one.
