Habitat
Reefs, Red Sea to South Africa

The santer is a more or less reddish seabream, one of the group of reef fish well known to line-boat anglers and the fishing industry as "reds". It carries strong canines at the front of the jaws with bands of small molars behind - the toolkit of a reef feeder.

It ranges widely from the Red Sea down the East African coast to South Africa, and is a common catch over reef.
