Habitat
Shoaling predator over reef and open coast

The geelbek, or Cape salmon, is a streamlined member of the kob and drum family, named for the yellow inside its mouth. It is a shoaling, midwater predator rather than a bottom-hugging reef fish, and its seasonal runs are a fixture of the South African coast.

It is caught along the southern and eastern Cape, and often passes over the same reefs divers frequent as it hunts baitfish.
