Coastal reef and sand

The yellowfin emperor is a modestly coloured member of the emperor family, its body yellowish brown and paler on the belly, with fins that are a uniform red. It reaches around 50 cm.

An Indo-West Pacific species, it is at the southern edge of its range in the western Indian Ocean, where it is recorded only from Mozambican coastal waters. Like other emperors it forages over reef and sand for bottom-living prey.
