The whitebarred rubberlip is a sweetlips of the western Indian Ocean, described from Madagascar and recorded along the East African coast down into South African waters.

Like its relatives it is a reef-associated fish with the thick, rubbery lips typical of the group. Adults hold near coral and rocky structure.
