Habitat
Coastal open water

The torpedo scad is a sleek, cigar-shaped member of the jack and scad family, its rear body and tail base ridged with a line of bony scutes. Everything about it is built for pace in open water.

A schooling pelagic of tropical Indo-Pacific coasts, it ranges into South African waters. It is a good-eating fish taken by anglers working baitfish schools.
