A silvery member of the kob family prized as both an eating and an angling fish along South Africa's east coast.

The squaretail kob is one of South Africa's kob or kabeljou group - silvery, elongate predators that hunt over sand and reef, often near the surf zone and in deeper coastal water, taking smaller fish and prawns.
Like its relatives it is highly regarded as an angling and table fish, and larger specimens give a strong account of themselves when hooked.
