The speckled snapper is a stout, deep-bodied snapper, its flanks scattered with pale speckles and its lips thick and fleshy. It is among the heavier members of the snapper family.
A reef-associated Indo-Pacific fish, it reaches into South African waters and holds near coral and rocky structure. A strong fighter and good eating, it is a prized target where it occurs.
