The six-blotch rockcod is a coral-reef grouper that grows to about 47 cm. It ranges from the Red Sea south to Beira and east across to French Polynesia.
It is taken over a wide depth band, from around 9 m down to 150 m, so it is as much a fish of the deeper reef as the shallows.
