The redlip rubberlip is a sweetlips of Indo-West Pacific reefs, reaching into South African waters. Like its relatives it carries the fleshy, rubbery mouth that becomes more pronounced with age.

It is a reef-associated fish, holding near coral and rocky structure where it feeds on bottom invertebrates and small fishes.
