Queenie Queenfish

The talang queenfish is a slender, compressed predator with five to eight large plumbeous blotches sitting above or across the lateral line, a dusky-to-dark dorsal lobe, and a big mouth reaching well past the eye in adults. It grows to about 120 cm.

It is intolerant of low salinity and murky water, so it sticks to clean water around reefs and offshore islands, usually cruising in small groups. It ranges from Algoa Bay northward through the Indian Ocean and east to Taiwan and Australia. The South African spearfishing record is 14.4 kg.
