Pickhandle Barracuda

The pickhandle barracuda is a sizeable, slender predator ranging across the Indo-Pacific and down the East African coast into Mozambique and Natal waters. It has many fine scales along the lateral line, moderate to large erect teeth and, unlike the great barracuda, no fleshy knob at the tip of the lower jaw.

The upper jaw reaches only to the front edge of the eye and the space between the eyes is flat. It hunts over reefs and coastal ground, often in loose groups, taking smaller fish on fast rushes.
