The minstrel is a sober-coloured rubberlip, first described from the Red Sea and also recorded from Natal. It carries the thick, rubbery lips characteristic of the sweetlips group.
It is a reef-associated fish that reaches into South African waters along the east coast, holding near coral and rocky structure.
