Habitat
Coral reefs

The humpback snapper takes its name from the markedly concave head profile that develops in large adults, giving them a high-shouldered, humped look. The tail is distinctly forked with rounded lobes, and the body carries the reddish tones typical of the reef snappers.

A schooling Indo-Pacific reef fish, it ranges into South African waters and is a common sight over coral where it shoals by day and disperses to feed.
