A long, slender, beak-jawed surface fish of warm coastal waters, banded along the flanks and quick to skitter across the top.

The garfish or barred needlefish is a slim, elongate surface dweller with long, beak-like jaws lined with fine teeth. Like other needlefishes it hangs near the top of the water in warm coastal seas, darting and skipping over the surface after small fish.
