Habitat
Open ocean, tropical and warm seas

The dorado has an elongate, compressed body clad in small smooth scales, a single long dorsal fin running from the nape almost to the tail, and a deeply forked tail. It is a fish of the open ocean, found through warm seas worldwide, though it is sometimes taken close to land.

It is a swift predator that hunts fish and squid, often following ships and gathering beneath floating objects and debris. Its flesh is highly prized.
