The white-edged, or captain fine, rockcod is a big grouper reaching about 90 cm, with a truncate tail edged in pale white and ctenoid mid-body scales.
It is known only from a narrow range, from southern Mozambique down to East London, and is common on reef off Natal in depths of about 10 to 70 m.
